How to organize continuous ffmpeg recording?

There is an ip-camera that gives rtsp. Through ffmpeg, all this is written into segments. But if you turn off the camera, then ffmpeg crashes. Node.js is not always able to track the crash of a process. I see 2 options. We need help with both:
1. Teach the node to track ffmpeg crashes more carefully;
2. ffmpeg does not close even if there is no camera, and when it is connected, it continues recording.
Please provide advice or solutions, if any.
