How to open an SD card from Android under Windows XP, what is the file system?

Surprisingly, I found that the SD card from my smartphone does not open under Windows XP (under Windows 7 it does). What could be the problem, how to solve? An update for XP with exFAT support seems to be worth it, there is an option in the exFAT formatting dialog.
