How to modify paid plugins for customers?

Good afternoon. There is a lot of work on freelance exchanges where customers need to make some changes and improvements to the plugins they have bought. How do you arrange work with them in this case? How do you check that the plugin sources allow you to do what the customer wants? Do you ask for the source codes of the plug-ins they bought and then write that you can fulfill the order or not?

If there is no information for developers on the plugin site, it is not customizable at the level of hooks, etc. If there is, we read the docs and see what features the authors have put into it. Easy
