How to merge two VMs with host machine into LAN in vmware?

Hi all!
I started to study this article: nodesquad.blogspot.ru/2013/04/blog-post.html
It was sent to me by one person in my other question. And I immediately ran into trouble. Namely, the 4th task.
If you are not too lazy, read it in the article itself, and for the lazy I will copy the third paragraph of this task: 3) Configure the network interfaces of both virtual machines and the VMware network configurator so that the host machine can ping both virtual machines and each of the virtual machines can ping the second one.
What am I supposed to do? How can I combine virtual machines and a host machine into a local network?
Googled, found old but understandable articles. But when I did everything according to the instructions, I still have ipconfig on both virtual machines, but the virtual machine itself on which I run ipconfig does not see anything.
