How to make your first commit to someone else's repository?

Hello.
I want to make my first commit to someone else's github repository. I have not made commits to someone else's repository before and I don't know where to start, tell me what to do.

commits are made to your repository (or wherever you have permission to write).
pull requests are sent to someone else's repository.
