By default, sections are automatically added to the Bitrix submenu. The nesting level of the submenu is 4. In this case, if there are not so many subsections, then articles are displayed in the submenu.
How can I prevent articles from appearing there?
You cannot decrease the nesting level, because in some sections it is necessary.

See the file where this menu is formed, something like .menu.ext.php There is a code that creates links, you need to remove the part where the articles are taken from it
