I do such things.
Two options:
Both options are good.
The first is soft rotation.
The second - discrete rotation, but a much better picture, good work on mobile devices, low RAM consumption (does not stutter in browsers even on weak PCs).
They used to do it on FLEX (flash), but now this technology has gone out of fashion.
