How to make raid 1 without data loss?

Hello. The situation is this. At work, there is a "server" running win serv 2003. There is a 1TB hard drive. Bases 1c lie on it. Many and heavy. Backup is not carried out anywhere. In this regard, I am afraid that the hard drive will fail and I will have to say goodbye to all the bases, etc. Now I'm thinking in the direction of raid 1.
Tell me what is better and more reliable. Hardware or software raid? If hardware, then advise a piece of iron.
What are the nuances? About drivers, etc.
What if one of the drives in the array fails? How to change and return raid?
In general, I would like to hear advice on how to do everything right. Do not lose data and do not get in the neck from the authorities. :)

@liks

RAID ≠ BackUp
But raid is still needed, the easiest way is to make a software one through diskmgmt there is a mirroring function. If one of the disks fails, replace it with the same one and everything is fine.
