How to make local mail on linux to test PHP requests?

Hey!
Need to test php function mail( ), started googling towards "ubuntu local mail setup".
I tried to install postfix according to some tutorials, but the result is not clear yet.
The question is how to make local mail on Ubuntu to test the mail ( ) function?
PS I'm trying to implement a mailbox check via email, i.e. I need to get the mail, and then follow the link on it

sudo apt-get install exim4
When asked, answer "local installation". However, it seemed to me the same for postfix, it is not clear why you have such a question.
