How to make friends with Debian, video card and monitor?

I have been trying various Linux distributions for the second day now. Now stands Debian 8 (Xfce).

GeForce GTX 950 video card.
The monitor in Windows worked at 1360x768 frequency 60
The monitor is connected via a VGA cable and a DVI adapter (input on the video card)

Everywhere the same scenario:
1. I install the proprietary Nvidia driver Following the instructions .
2. After the reboot, the default screen is 1024 by 768. The text is not blurry, the height is the same, there are black bars on the sides. My (Hooray!) appears in the list of available resolutions.
3. With the help of nvidia-settings (Nvidia X Server Settings) I set the screen resolution to 1360x768.
And then everything goes wrong. The screen seems to become 1600 ~ x768, the working area flies off the left and right sides of the screen by 10%, the text is blurry and ugly everywhere.
What can be wrong? :(

The monitor has a connector for an HDMI cable (I don't think so). I had a similar problem through a VGA cable 1024 x 768 only this resolution was. Changed to an HDMI cable, and immediately it became a completely different resolution, which it should be.
