How to make fonts for WYSIWYG?

The task is to make a kind of WYSIWYG editor. actually everything is clear, but I can not understand how to implement the fonts? let's say I have a dropdown with 10 or 20 fonts. (I will take it from google fonts). the main task is that in this dropdown every item with the name of the font should be made in this font. (to the primer as in Photoshop)
maybe here. how to ship them? everything on the page at once - then the page load will increase several tens of times.
So far, the best thing I've come up with is to make menu items a picture. and when choosing a font - load only it.

Downloading the entire font only after selecting it is a good idea, but google fonts also allows you to specify the character set you need. It is not necessary to make pictures, you can just download fonts with a limited set of characters, and then load their "full" versions as needed.
