How to make Fira Sans font display in Chrome on Windows 7?

Greetings. I put the Fira Sans font from Google web Fonts on the site, but under Windows 7 it is not displayed in Chrome. Just empty spaces. Not even replaced by another font. Firefox, Opera and even IE8 display fine. Under Windows 8 everything is fine too. The problem is observed not only on my computer.
There is little mention of this problem on the net. I think due to the rather recent appearance of this font in Google Fonts.

Found an approximate solution on stackoverflow:
seems to be working.
I'll come up with something more elegant a little later.
