How to make access in nodejs to files outside of the project folder?

Made a project in PHP (Laravel/Lumen). I want to build using webpack (Vue Cli). However, I would like to make several options. In particular, so that in different versions there are libraries of different modules. Can it be done? Now it is not possible to access a file outside the project folder.
