How to make a single MS SQL instance clustered?

You need to create a new MS SQL instance in such a way that in the future you can add another one and combine them into a cluster (Failover Cluster Instance, if I understand correctly). With MSSQL I am very mediocre, smoking manuals on technet did not give an unambiguous answer to this question, google too.
As I understand it, I need to install the first SQL node in a clustered configuration, thus obtaining a cluster for 1 node. And then, on demand, simply add another one, while not forgetting about the role of Failover Clustering in Windows Server itself. So?
