How to make a responsive image gallery?

I want to make an adaptive gallery with pictures. Something like this https://learn.javascript.ru/task/inline-block-vs-float but they seem to me not adaptive. I know how to make a responsive image, it stretches smoothly depending on the width of the browser. And in this gallery, the pictures jump down as it is rude. Is this considered adaptive? Or should it be done differently?

You can reduce the size of the picture or wrap it to another line, depending on the conditions of the customer... The main thing is that the gallery looks normal at different resolutions...
