How to make a mobile version of the newsletter?

Hello! They set me the task of making an adaptive mailing list so that a light version would be available for mobile phones. Usually I did mailings with a condo, a sign with blank.gif and no styles. I tried to shove regular media queries into the head, like: "@media screen and (max-width: 640px) and (max-device-width: 640px) { " - it still doesn't work almost anywhere, probably I'm writing it wrong, and I need to somehow- that's different. Tell me how to do it right? Of course, I read the articles on Habré from Pechkin, but so far something is not going at all.

It's nice that they give a link to my own topic on the Medium, but this cheat sheet is perhaps not the most informative thing, and even more so does not answer the question posed.
Read articles on Habré from me (dudeonthehorse).
Media queries do not work in Yandex and Mail applications on smartphones from the word "absolutely". Until recently, Gmail and Google Inbox did not work either, but now there is a process of support from Google.
To the question "How to make a mobile version of the newsletter?" - use fluid layout approach without media queries. Described in the article https://webdesign.tutsplus.com/tutorials/creating-...
"So that a light version goes for mobile phones" - but this is already a strange statement of the problem. If you can make it easier on mobile phones, then you can also on the desktop. Therefore, there is no need to rack your brains with simplifying the mobile version, when you can make both mobile and desktop equally simple.
