How to make a layout designer's portfolio?

For about a year I was engaged in the layout of sites, so to speak, "for myself." I am proficient in HTML, CSS, jquery. Now there is a desire to make money on it. I don't have a portfolio, of course.
The question is the following. How can I create this portfolio? If I download a dozen more or less decent PSD layouts, lay them out and put them on my site, will that be enough?
It's just that most layout designers have links to their work in their portfolio, which will not be on my site.
Thanks in advance for your help.

It is desirable to demonstrate knowledge of the "features of CSS": animation, different alignment methods, adaptive CSS and that it all looks good with different extensions and does not break with JavaScript turned off.
Usually a layout designer works with people who can check it out
