How to make a drop down list with images?

I'm trying to make a drop-down list with pictures, that is, so that when a certain option is selected in the drop-down list, the image changes (an image is "attached" to each option).
I used the manual on the page https://www.planetaexcel.ru/techniques/1/39/
The problem arose at the last stage - it gives an error, an incorrect link. Moreover, if you "insert" a link to a specific cell into the picture (for example, =B2), then the contents of the cell will be displayed in the form of a picture. Other links (=OFFSET(<...>), or some type name =Photo, as in the example) are not accepted, and an error is generated.
Excel 2016, unfortunately I can't provide the exact content of the error message. Solutions through VB do not consider.
Why is there an error? Is it a matter of the version of the program (on the network they write mainly about earlier ones), or in some kind of setting?
