How to leave the files deleted from the turnip on live?

When initil on live turnip, did not add some unnecessary folders to ignore - and pushed it.
Then the customer asked them to ignore. I locally added them to .gitignore, did git rm --cached , committed and pushed to the remote turnip.
But now when I do a pull on live, git will delete those folders there. How to avoid it? I need to leave them, just so that git stops following them.
