How to learn UI / UX design if there is no money for courses?

I would like to learn GUI design, just for myself. Sometimes I dabble in Adobe Illustrator, doing work for friends. So I thought, why not master it at a more decent level? Unfortunately, there is no money for courses, but since I am not interested in this occupation for earning money, then maybe there are ways to somehow master everything myself? Just "copy" first from samples available on the Internet, to read some separate materials? If you have links to interesting blogs, please share. I don't know where to start.
