How to keep a list of changes in the engine?

A site on the DLE engine, which was edited many times: functionality was added, many changes were made, etc.
The developers of the engine release updates once every half a year, which are significant enough to be delivered, but because engine I edited then, it's not as easy as I would like, so something needs to be done about it. The very first thing that came to mind was to start a notebook where everything will be written down - it's inconvenient.
Maybe there are solutions I don't know about?

Found a bug - reported to the developers, or made a PR. They corrected themselves if it's critical. Then, after merging your PR, they updated the engine. Etc. If these are real bugs, I will and should correct them. Well, since these are not bugs, but crutches, then you are clearly doing something wrong ...
