How to interrupt "re-requests" after leaving the component?

Until I deployed web sockets (most likely I won’t in the near future, there are many reasons), you need to re-request every n-time - messages (but only if we are in the right component. If you use just setTimeout or setInterval, then even when we move to another component, requests will not stop being sent, and given that the messages themselves cannot be viewed at this moment, the requests will go empty. Maybe someone has already encountered this, or just knows the answer, I will be grateful for your help
