How to install windows server 2016 on p420i in HBA mode?
The task was to create a Hyper-V failover cluster. There is an HP DL360G8 server with the p420i controller switched to HBA mode. When you try to install the operating system on any of the disks, it swears that "Windows cannot be installed on this disk." When the controller is switched to Raid mode, everything works normally, but this mode is not suitable for a cluster. The firmware update is the latest, rolled back the BIOS to an earlier version, with no results. Actually, what else can you try?

I asked myself, I will answer. In short, no way. But there is a small life hack, buy pci-e x4 m2 controller and m2 disk ~ 6-7k rubles. Connect the SATA wire to the connector where the drive should be. In BIOS, the SATA Legacy mode is set, boot from the installation disk and select the m2 disk as the target. As a result, the problem is solved at the cost of extremely small investments. Solution peeped here https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/8hbsu5/c...
In the G8, the preinstall environment is already on board in the form of a flash drive, or as before - we boot from the disk of the same name and select which OS we want to install in the menus, slip the image of the axis - pe performs the phase of copying everything that is needed, at the same time placing .inf and so on and own installation cycle starts from the place of the reboot if the axis was set as usual - the kernel with the slipped drivers is already loaded, etc.
