How to install ubuntu 18.04 minimal edition?
Being a fan of minimalism, I do not like a lot of pre-installed software in operating systems and have always installed ubuntu with minimal cd or net install. But I bought a new asus ux310 laptop with an intel wireless 8260 wi-fi adapter and this adapter is not detected by the installer during the installation process. Are there any other options for installing ubuntu in a minimal version? If you install a bare ubuntu server and then install xfce on it, is it the same as the desktop version, or is there some difference in the server version?
PS I do not want to install other distributions, I'm used to ubuntu.

You can install the server version, install xfce on it and clean it from server applications that you do not plan to use.
Or install a regular Ubuntu and clean up applications that are not planned to be used.
IMHO, the labor costs are about the same.
Download the original image during installation, the function (Minimal install) will be available, when selected, a minimum set of software will be available.

in principle, any variant of ubunta can be converted into another through shamanism with apt
repositories and they have an identical set of packages.
a build-disk is a collection of packages from one-on-one repositories aimed at a certain target.
there is a standard netboot build that allows you to install ubuntu purely from tyrnet repositories with a full-size selection during installation. It has a mini.iso of the minimum size from which you can put any variant of ubuntu.
