How to insert text inside progress bar?

I'm using the html5 progress tag to implement the progress bar. It is necessary that the inscription "Participates (value value)" is displayed over the bar, but by simply pasting the text inside the tag, it is not displayed. Advise how it is possible to implement it most natively. Or, maybe somewhere (for example, in jquery ui), such a progress bar can be made easier? Thanks for the help)
