How to increase the number of characters per line when working with a terminal through a serial port?

There is a board with linux, with which communication goes through a serial port or ssh.
When working through ssh everything is ok.
When working through a serial port, if the string is more than 80 characters, then the characters are overwritten during input, and the formatting flies during output.
There is also a similar board there, everything is ok, from the noticed differences I found the following
on the board with problems TERM == vt220, and on the other TERM == vt102.
