Let's assume that there is a thematic portal where users can add articles and comments. In articles and comments, you can mention a user by adding his nickname. For example, on many sites I saw this format for mentioning @nickname . And the thing is that this nickname should be a link.

How to be when changing a nickname? Replace this nickname with a new one in all articles and comments? What if there are hundreds of such comments? Search and edit hundreds of rows in a database?
