How to implement PBX health monitoring?

It is necessary to implement testing every 10 minutes of PBX performance (naked asterisk 1.8). Interested in the ability to both make calls to the world and receive them from the world (to a specific internal extension number).
Can this be done in some way? The question arose for the reason that we recently caught such a glitch: clients registered on PBX, but when they tried to make any call, it immediately broke off (if I'm not mistaken, I cursed that I could not create a sip-channel). After restarting the asterisk, everything "treated".

Buy from a city PBX (preferably not from the one to which the Asterisk stream is connected) an analog number in a separate pair - connect it to some fax-modem board on a separate PC and test it in both directions one by one.
