How to implement city selection on the site and display the desired content?

On dle cms I'm trying to organize automatic detection of the city of the site visitor.

Faced with the main question, how to optimize the mechanism? I have 1117 cities and 90 site categories.

Is it necessary in each city - category, to create 90 subcategories?

Example:

Moscow - auto

Moscow - moto

Omsk - auto

Omsk -

moto the name of the city cannot be entered in the url ... it will be possible to display shoes from moscow and shoes from omsk in the shoes category, the url will be one - obuv

Please explain how to implement cities correctly without creating thousands of categories?

Для продвижения город важнее, чем категория товара.
С точки зрения БД - нужно просто создать отдельный столбец 'city'.
С точки зрения SEO я бы рекомендовал сформировать URL вида https://mysite.com/city/vid_tovara. Т.е. сначала геопривязка, потом каталог с товарами.
Если ваша CMS не заточена под региональные фичи, то я бы Вам не позавидовал, администрирование вручную такого количества категорий невозможно.
