I'm trying to make a slider in a WordPress theme. It will only be shown on the custom home page.
How correct, relatively speaking, and reasonable is the option of creating a separate type of posts with a title , a short description , a link field (where the slide will lead) and a thumbnail , which are then formed into a slide, and all posts together - a slider?
Are there better solutions?

It's a perfectly normal solution. There are ready-made similar slider modules.
