How to ignore lines with exclusion words when searching with sphinx?

The point is in the title of the question. Namely words and stems, not field != 'word'
And is it possible to use this with thinking_sphinx in RoR ?
While I did it stupidly - I take the id of the records with the necessary words, I exclude from them the id of the records with exception words. It turns out two requests, clumsily and slowly, and even problems arose when there were too many id received.
