How to go to "sighting" interviews (when there is no goal of finding a job)?
Good time.
I work as a C# Senior, and a couple of times a month I get an invitation for an interview. I’m not going to change my job in the near future, but in various sources I met recommendations from time to time to go for an interview: to show yourself, to see nice HR, to eat cookies, to evaluate companies, trends, just to gain interview experience.
Question: how to inform your boss and inviting HR? If the first one finds out, there may be questions and distrust. It will also be unpleasant for the second person to find out that a lot of time for the candidate was wasted, and next time they will simply not let you in the door.
Is it worth it to warn your boss in advance or just conspire?
Is it worth it to warn the inviting HR in advance about the "futility" of the conversation?
Interested in the answer both in Russian realities and abroad.
Edit1. Colleagues, if it's not difficult for you, can you add your role (developer, boss, HR)? Just to make it easier to understand your point of view.

If you do not have a specific goal of getting another job, then there is no need to warn your boss, this will free both him and yourself from unnecessary hassle.
But it’s worth warning the inviting HR that everything suits you at your job now and you are passively considering offers, you never know, something interesting will come across. For you, this is an opportunity to test your knowledge, and for HR, an opportunity to interest you in a good offer.
Well, in general, naked "shooting" is a kind of metaphor?
At the current place, everything suits, but what if they offer something many times better and more interesting? -)
p / s / in principle, a friend from another sphere regularly shot, moreover, even with the receipt of answers to a corporate fax. This was perceived quite normally, even taking into account the fact that he also used the offers as arguments for raising salaries in his current position -)
For the boss and HR to find out that an employee goes to interviews, this is not time wasted, but motivation should be a reason to think. And if suddenly this occasion begins to lead to negative, this is an indicator of the inadequacy of the leadership
, but on the topic, I would not particularly talk about going to interviews, even if the management is sane. the less you know the better you sleep. and if they find out, then oh and ah, so no one signs and swears eternal loyalty to the office ... (if it’s not Russian Railways somewhere, they don’t take back the treacherously resigned employee who betrayed the “Road!”). and 20 years in one place is no longer as cool in a resume as 20-30 years ago
