How to get user id by its shortName name?

Hello.
It is necessary for the application to get the avatar of the user or group, having only a link to this user or group. If the link has a profile/group ID in it (for example , ok.ru/group/53038939046008), then I extract it without any problems and receive a link to the profile picture with the application. But what if the link does not have an id in it, but has a "beautiful url" (shortname) of the profile/group, for example ok.ru/apiok ?
