How to get started with electronics?

Hey Habr! I have been interested in DIY electronics for a long time. Today's article about the robot once again reminded of this. Interested in similar devices with microcontrollers, guitar effects.
The problem is that all of these things are complex enough to start right there. In programming, people start with Hello World, because there is something similar here too. In general, I am interested in where to start for a person who is ignorant of the issue of radio electronics, and in which direction to move. Thank you.

Take a book for a radio amateur (1980-2001) - there are a lot of them on the Internet, scroll through until clear, if you like some designs, repeat. Start simple, read the principle of operation and look at the circuit, repeating the circuit on hardware, you will develop the following qualities: remembering the basic ideas of circuit design, typical designs (the basic ones on which everything is built), spatial thinking that will help in PCB layout.
There is a page for beginners in the radio magazine (there is closer from theory to implementation), but there are mistakes there too (either typos or deliberate ones).

* Tim Wilmshurst - Development of embedded systems using PIC microcontrollers. Principles and practical examples.
*M.S. Golubtsov - AVR microcontrollers. From simple to complex.
* Tavern - PIC microcontroller. Application practice.
*Shpak Yu.A. C programming for AVR and PIC microcontrollers.
It's mainly about 8-bit MK, connecting LEDs, motors, and all that.
Perhaps there is already something newer / better, with an emphasis on arduins, etc.
