How to get started in data mining and machine learning?

Who is in the subject - tell me how to start in practice in the areas mentioned above. I want to gradually be reborn from a developer into a machine learning specialist. Climbing Kaggle is scary and incomprehensible. You should probably do something faster. Who can tell? Thank you.

Well, the second thing is to look at what other courses there are. Or better look at specializations, this is such a new feature in coursers, courses are grouped by specialties.

I signed up for Data Science and Data mining
Plus, look at the posts on habré from moat , every week the author publishes a review of the most interesting (from his point of view) materials on data analysis .
Well, take a look at kaggle.com, but this is already, IMHO, after you get some kind of base

I think you need to start with finding clients :) Each client has his own unique task - gradually you will figure it out yourself.
PS Itself would be glad to find such clients. Specify a possible search method ?
