How to get a VAT Number and is it needed?

I live in Poland, there is a notice that I need to enter a VAT number, I don’t have one.
If I just started working on UpWork, the volumes are not large. Should I bother with this number? What percentage is removed by UpWork if it is not introduced?
In principle, any information on this subject would be helpful.

if you are "the rest" - VAT is "not a right, but a privilege", so check the criteria in the tax (usually turnover and countries - correspondents)

Register as an entrepreneur in the tax office and automatically receive VAT.
