How to get a reference to an object's property?

I work in Node.js. The situation is as follows: I get a link to an object from the database via DBRef, say, a user, it has many properties (such as age, gender, position, etc.), now I turn to the user to get, say, a position.
Can I get not an object through DBRef, but immediately a specific property of the object?
