How to get a normal terminal in Linux Mint?

Hello. Worth following distribution kit LinxusL
$ cat /etc/*-release

DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca"

ID=ubuntu
ID_LIKE=debian
PRETTY_NAME="Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS"
VERSION_ID="14.04"
HOME_URL="http://www.ubuntu.com/"
SUPPORT_URL="http://help.ubuntu.com/"
BUG_REPORT_URL="http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/"

By clicking on the terminal button at the bottom, I get this window:
fc83e4737d3d47ca91daee0df5bd2dc5.png
By pressing the "up", "left", "right" or "delete" buttons, I get the following characters in the terminal:
b3c7ff8028744f29b3b16f6ac4049615.png
How do I get / configure the terminal so that the command history and other goodies work ?
Thanks

This is usually when there is some sh instead of a normal shell (and judging by the fact that there is only '$' in the console, it is).
1) Make cat /etc/shells to see what shells are available
2) Through chsh or usermod, change the shell to the one you need (bash for example).
3) Install zsh and make it default.
