How to get a list of contacts in a service on Android?

There is an example of a service that periodically performs some actions, I can’t find a class that could receive a list of contacts or at least one contact from all. I tried a lot of things and the same with receiving SMS, it constantly displays 0 value. Does anyone have an example of how this can be done?
