How to find the pivot points of a 3rd order curve?

N, this is the beginning of the curve. M - end. Q - arc maximum (t=0.5). It is also known that reference points must lie on segments PN and PM. Please help me solve my problem with equations. And I would be very glad if they commented extensively so that I would at least learn something from this.
