How to find and defeat the one who hangs Excel?

Installed Office 2016 Pro on Win10Pro. Often when opening or trying to perform a disk operation (and even when idle, apparently when trying to autosave), Excel (not responding) and hangs after 2-3 minutes (and sometimes after 10 minutes). With Word, this also happens, but much less often. On another machine with the same Office and also Win10Pro, there was never such a problem at all. Attempts to monitor a service that hangs through Resource Monitor shows svchost which says nothing at all.
