How to exit gulp watch command in mac terminal?

When you run the gulp watch command, the terminal starts to monitor changes, I cannot continue working with the terminal, the commands are ignored. What command should be entered into the terminal window to continue working without restarting the terminal?

open a new tab (⌘ + T) or window (⌘ + N) and work quietly.
well, I don’t know about gulp, but usually the command is interrupted in the console by ⌃ + C.
