How to enter single user mode on Mac OS?

Question to the owners of poppies.
There is a macbook air 11, you need to enter single user mode in order to reset the user password according to this instruction.
I do as it is written here: support.apple.com/kb/HT1492?viewlocale=ru_RU
But I don't get any white text. Everything loads as usual.
Mac OS version is latest.
