How to embed a DLL into an executable file?

Is it possible to somehow embed a library, for example, MSVCP140.DLL, into an executable file so as not to drag it along?

There are several approaches, for example, making a self-extracting archive in %TEMP% that will run the program from a temporary folder (some installers do this).
I prefer the file system virtualization approach, when all files are right inside the .exe and are not copied outside, one of these solutions is the Molebox program
