How to configure Emmet in Atom? Where is this preferences.json? What is the correct course of action?

open Setting - Packages - Emmet - setting it says (at the very bottom of the answer)
"Extensions support
You can easily extend Emmet with new actions and filters or customize existing ones. In Preferences > Emmet, set Extensions path to folder with Emmet extensions. By default , it's ~/emmet, eg emmet folder in your system HOME folder."
