How to download a file from gmail?

I wanted to backup an important file. Uploaded it to gmail.com to my drafts. I thought later either I will send it to myself or I will restore it from there.
Now I click on it, and google says:
"For security reasons, this type of file cannot be used in Gmail, as it violates Google's rules regarding executable files and archives."
And how to be? The file hangs in drafts, but I can't download it!

maybe the file can be moved to google drive or if it is large, then it may already be there

I found a solution:
take an android, downgrade the gmail app to the default version, find the email, download the attachment.... voila!
