How to do an interactive git push?

I need to ask a question to a user during a git push. I tried to use the pre-push hook, but it ignores the read command. Maybe you need to do something differently?
The task is simple, with git push you need to check whether all the variables in .gitlab-ci.yml are correctly set. If not, issue a prompt whether to ignore these variables or not. Depending on the response, continue or abort git push.
