How to display the progress of shutill.make_archive()?

There is a console application which digests files. One of the tasks of this application is to create an archive. I create archives with the help shutill.make_archive()of Sometimes quite large files (2-3 GB) get into the input. How to make it clear to the user that the program has not hung, but processing is taking place behind the scenes? I'm thinking of attaching some kind of progressbar, but I've been looking for how to do this for two days now.
I will be grateful for any advice.
