Take as a basis admin/view/extension/module/category.twig Here is the output layout of the Category module, from the standard set of OC modules.
It is best to change the modifier. As for the admin panel, in the Modules / Extensions section, find the Categories module and enable it, then in the Design -> Layouts section, find the Home layout and add the Categories module in the required column, do not forget to click on + when choosing a module and then save from the top right.
To see all changes in the Status Bar at the top right, click Developer Options and disable the cache.
PS You can copy the categories module and rename everything you need to create your own module, which you can then edit directly, and you are not afraid that something will be lost from the update, and you won’t have to bother with modifiers.
