How to determine which process is locking a USB disk and/or free this disk if Nirsoft Open Files Monitor does not help?

It often happens that the system does not allow you to unmount the USB drive. Tried Nirsoft Open Files Monitor - there only system processes hold three NTFS-pseudo-files (cannot be released). I even tried to run chkdsk /f (which somehow invalidates all handles) - it was successful, but the disk still cannot be unmounted. As I understand it, something keeps open not specific files, but the disk itself. How to deal with it?
